We honour
the original work of playwrights at Origins. We enjoy serving
texts with lyrical language and that have something to say
about our world.
Some of
our productions include the 4 time Jessie nominated Blue
Dragons by Gordon Armstrong; Telling Tales, Touching
Tongues at the VECC Youth Week by Sara Graefe and Anne
Fleming; Wasps by Sally Clark, and Yellow On Thursdays
by Sara Graefe. More recently, our associate production of
Berend McKenzies NGGRFG toured the Edinburgh
Fringe Festival and we produced a staged reading of Janet
Hintons new comedy about climate change, The Swing.
Seedlings
Program
We also assist emerging artists with our community building
projects-- including the early work of artists such as Craig
Hall; and Shane Drouker, and Valerie Sing Turner.
Gordon
Armstrong Playwrights Rent Award
As a legacy of our first production in Vancouver, we celebrate
the hard work of playwrights by presenting this award annually
ever since Gordon's untimely passing in 1996.
While
we occasionally produce films, our focus in Vancouver has
been theatre. Sometimes we have produced and reimagined rare
classics for the contemporary stage. We have a keen interest
in work with social issues and artistic content that entertains
and inspires.
